Rachel Comey and Areaware present Dazzled by Kanghee Kim. Kim’s installation uses a common household form, the drying rack, as a frame for display, pointing to the curious relationship shared by darkroom photography and handmade clothing, the need to hang-dry. Using photographs shot on sight at Rachel Comey in addition to images from her series, Street Errands, Kim has created a playful installation mirroring the interior architecture of Comey’s boutique. Kim is a Brooklyn based photographer who uses collage and altered photography to create subtlety surreal scenes from everyday environments. Her book Magic was published by Same Paper Press in 2016. She recently produced a conceptual puzzle called Puzzle in Puzzle made in collaboration with Areaware, using photography from her series, Mirrors. Completed puzzles will be presented on-site.
Dazzled was on view at Rachel Comey during New York Design Week from May 17-23, 2017 as part of Sight Unseen Presents, a special presentation of collaborative exhibitions throughout the city organized by Sight Unseen.
